What to do?

by Rooticalee @ 10. 01. 08 - 22:26:52

Hmmmm, I've got some career decisions to be making and only the next few months will reveal if I made the right ones.

The thing is I started the job I'm in at the moment last June after doing voluntary for the previous 2 years (not at the same place). Now this job wasn't exactly the kind of job I was ideally looking for but after 2 years of being unable to find paid work after graduating I wasn't gonna turn it down. Not only that, and this is important the job is quite well paid..substantially more than what I was expecting as a first salary after leaving uni. I do enjoy the job, it's hard work a lot of the time because much of it is about building the project up as well as delivering the service but I do like it. Other important aspects of the job are that it's virtually on my doorstep and my work-life balance is bang on. The kind of work I'd been lookin at was all located in the neighbouring city about 12 miles away.

Here's the problem. The funding for our project runs out at the end of April and we've recently found out that we've been eliminated from a funding round we were expected to be successful in. Our project manager sent us an E mail the other day explaining that she will be sending us all end of contract letters. Despite this the search for other funding goes on and there are a few options in the pipeline but nothing definite.

Fortunately for me I don't have any massive financial committments like a mortgage. The thing is there is every possibility that the project could go on past March with new funding and there is every possibility that it won't. The job is local, well paid, on my doorstep with a great work life balance and I like it. Do I start looking for another job which more than likely will be less well paid and not so local or do I sit it out and wait and see what's gonna happen? I'd be gutted if I got another job further way, less well paid only to discover that funding was made available for this job and I shoulda stayed put.

Has anyone else been in a similar predicament? If so what did you do? I'm more inclined to sit it out and see as I don't have any big financial committments.

Sheep Abuse - sort it!

by Rooticalee @ 10. 01. 08 - 22:05:50

I picked up the local rag today that comes out on Thursdays only to be confronted the most sickening story of two local fuckwits who got pissed and battered 3 sheep in a barn with iron bars and other weapons. Not only this but one of the sick morons thought it was clever to record it on his phone. I'm not even gonna go into the details of the injuries sustained by the sheep but two of them had to be put down.

Thinking what he had achieved was somehow productive and worthy of appraisal from his peers he showed it to them, one of whom reported him. They've not been sentenced yet but it's time these kind of actions were dealt with properly. I'm not one of the 'hang em and flog em' brigade but I really would like to see these sub human little scumbags do some serious time for this. I'm not messin about I'd put em away for a couple of years for this shit.

New Year, New Start

by Rooticalee @ 07. 01. 08 - 14:53:01

Well back again. This is my first day back at work cos I booked some leave and used some flexi to have an extra week off. Motivation level is about -10 at the moment, hence me tossing it off and writing this blog. Funding might be running out for the job in March so I'm lookin for summat else anyway.

On a more positive note I stopped smoking on 1st of Jan. Got the patches on and it's goin well so far. Had a couple of ropey moments but nothing too traumatic. I already feel better in terms of being able to smell and taste things better. I seem to have more energy too which is good and I can see I'm saving money. This might be the first month in ages when I don't go into my overdraft, hell I might even start eating vegetables at this rate.

Return of Rooticalee

by Rooticalee @ 14. 12. 07 - 01:06:39

Hasta La Victoria Siempre!!!!. I'm back after a long absence. A few things have changed, I'm a year older , B.liar has gone only to be replaced by Gord on Brown, like there's a difference. I've also got a new job. well done the F.A (at last) on appointing Cappello. All these little Englanders bleating on about it's got to be an Englishman for the job. Bollocks, it's got to be the BEST man for the job not the best Englishman. From what I've heard Cappello won't be tolerating celebrity egos which is good.

Well can't be arsed to type any more cos I'm proper tired but it's good to be back.

Viva la Revolucion. Roots.
